To resurrect, restore and ride!
About the CJMG
Established in January 2007, the CJMG was formed by a group of like-minded enthusiasts, who’s aims were to resurrect, restore and most importantly, ride classic Japanese motorcycles from the pre-1980 era.
Based in Christchurch, New Zealand, the CJMG take to the streets each month for an exhilarating ride around the Canterbury region. Members of the CJMG come from a variety of backgrounds, but they all share a passion for these beautiful (yet sometimes temperamental) machines. At any one time, there will be several members who are restoring bikes, often from a very sorry state. The goal for most of the guys is to have a machine looking just as she did in the early 70’s and hopefully running just as well, if not better!
The bikes in our group range from the 50cc ones we cut our teeth on through to the big 1000cc monsters. All four of the major Japanese marques are well represented. Most of the riders have more than one bike, which makes our monthly rideouts an interesting event. These rides take place on the 4th Sunday of the month and can cover quite a bit of ground around the Canterbury region. On average, we have a dozen bikes being ridden each month and we always draw a crowd wherever we head.
The CJMG also has a monthly pub night (3rd Wednesday) where members get together over an ale and swap restoration tips, offer mechanical advice to each other and generally relive what we consider to be the “golden age” of motorcycling.
